I was honoured to be one of Gladwyn's many friends, his passing is very hard to comprehend. He was a truly marvellous gentleman, with incredible knowledge of many subjects (especially the arts), wrote and published on a wide variety of topics including on his home county of Derbyshire, always forthcoming with fascinating insights into his life and all accompanied with a delightful sense of humour. He will be sorely missed. Gladwyn, we thank you for your final love. It will always be treasured. The last of the Squire Scholars.

He was unmarried.
