He was s of Edgar Henry STENNING (1878-1956) of Bickley, Kent, and Eva Clavell (1882-1962) d of Walter Badeley PATTISSON (1854-1913) of Graylings, Beckenham and Mary Eva (1856-1938, d of Charles Frederick HORE). He m 1949 Cynthia (Cynnie) Margaret (b Edinburgh 1922, d 2011) d of Maj Julien Neil Oscar RYCROFT DSO MC (1892-1928), scion of the Bts of that name, and Elizabeth Mildred Louisa (1896-1932) d of Sir Ralph ANSTRUTHER 6th Bt. They had 3 sons.
