The Hon Arthur Somerset, who died suddenly 25 July, 2012, aged 52, was the only son and heir of the 6th Baron Raglan (Peerage of the UK, cr 1852). He was born 27 April, 1960, son of Geoffrey Somerset, who succeeded his brother in the family honours, 24 Jan 2010; married 2001, Tanya, dau of Roger Broome, of Chessington, Surrey, by whom he had issue, Iggy, Ivo, and Oona-Vita.

The heir to the peerage is Iggy FitzRoy Somerset, born in 2004    (?)

The family seat was Cefntilla Court, Llandenny in Monmouthshire. The 5th baron Raglan willed Cefntilla to a Los Angeles based nephew, Henry van Moyland, and not to the heirs of the barony. Thus, Iggy inherits the title only.

He will, I think, be the first baron to be called Iggy.

It seems Ivo has become a popular name in recent years. Haven't we had a couple of births in recent months with that name?

How terrible to have willed the family seat to an American nephew, I wonder what was the motivation behind that-- and a nephew through the female line at that.

I should have said  Iggy inherits the title only when the time comes.

This is a case of a grandson who will be succeeding his grandfather, not that unusual.

Has a granddaughter ever succeeded her grandfather (or grandmother, for that matter) to a title?

Thanks.

"Has a granddaughter ever succeeded her grandfather (or grandmother, for that matter) to a title?"

Sometimes it is a bit frustrating when we do a lot of research to answer questions here, and then a few months later someone asks the same question all over again, when the answer could be found by doing a search of this group's archives. Google has made searching through the group's archive quite easy.  :)

In this case, you will find examples of what you seek here:

Sorry, I didn't realize this had been asked before, and so recently too.

I will write "I must Google the archives before asking a question" a 100 times!  :)

Thanks for the link.

Google makes it easy. You can search for an exact phrase (or any series of consecutive words) by enclosing the words inside quotation marks. Ask yourself what phrase is likely to appear in a thread covering the subject of your questions, and then search for that phrase.

In this case, a search for the phrase "succeeded her grandfather" [including the quotation marks] gives only four results, so it is easy to find a thread with some of the information you want.

Thanks, Paul.  Good to know for future searches.
