David Cameron, now the resigned Prime Minister of UK, set to receive an Earldom from the Queen later in the year for his six years of service to the Nation.

Well if he is offered such an honour I am sure that he will accept it! He would be far more deserving of such an honour than B'lair.

Sadly, those days are gone. Cameron will take the Garter one day, I do suppose, & a life peerage.

There is nothing sad about it.

Oh ,I think it is very sad. But the hereditary peerage now seems to be limited to members of the Royal Family

I too am in agreement with Michael Rhodes about it being sad that the hereditary peerage seems to be now limited to the Royal Family.

I doubt that he would be honoured that highly. In any case, I thought that he was going to see out this parliament as an MP and there are still nearly four years to go under the new fixed-term parliaments system.

It's a pity the Earldom of Guilford is still extant, otherwise perhaps a new creation of it for Cameron would be appropriate.

It would be appropriate when peerages are abolished.

The Earl of Guilford and his heirs may not altogether share this sentiment.

There wouldn't be an Earl of Guilford if it wasn't still extant.

Obviously this is a reference to Cameron being the "worst PM since Lord North", not a serious suggestion!

Not sure either of them deserve any honours

Probably, if he does not wish to seek re-election at the General Election a life peerage would be offered, perhaps Lord Cameron of Witney?

Given how Thatcher did manage to wrangle a baronetcy from Major, that really forms the upper limit of what's possible. And Major not pursuing a similar path for himself has most likely attenuated even that option.

We now have a glut of former prime ministers waiting for the Garter or the Thistle.

I doubt Blair will ever be made a Knight of the Garter following the Chilcot Report.

It is now almost six months since Cameron left Parliament. If it is going to happen it will happen soon!

Knighthoods were revived in Australia for a short period after more than 20 years.

There were also revived in New Zealand. It could happen!

The knighthoods in Australia were relieved for a short time untill Turnbull become PM then knock them off the honour system for Oz..

Cameron will get his honours in due course, I suspect. An Earldom I hope.

He will probably be made a Knight of the Order of the Garter at some point in the future. I doubt he will receive a Peerage, Life or Hereditary.

The all current living former Prime Ministers don’t have any kind of Peerage and only Sir John Major has been appointed to Order of the Garter.

Major was appointed in 2005 nearly eight years after he left office, so Cameron may have to wait some time.

_. Cameron will have to wit for Blair & Brown to be honoured first, I think.
