He was s of Lt-Cdr Richard Alfred Slingsby BETHELL RN (1892-1975), scion of the WESTBURY barons, and Frances Elizabeth (1907-2002) d of Lt-Col Charles Maxwell Shurlock HENNING (1866-1931) of Frome House, Dorchester, Dorset (see Burke's Family Records p313) by his 1906 m (reg Q3 Devon) to Frances Ann Sophia MACKINTOSH (c1882-1964). He m 1953 Pamela Mary d of Hubert FLETCHER and had a son (Charles Maxwell Slingsby b 1957) and three daus.

His son now takes his place as 5th in line of succession to the barony:

1. Hon Richard Alexander David BETHELL (b 1986) s & ha of present Baron. He m 2017 Jonkvrouwe Alexa Wendela (b 1989 reg London) d of Jonkheer Ferdinand Hooft GRAAFLAND of London, and _ WALSH, no issue

7. Richard Slingsby BETHELL (b 1965, son of (6)) married with two sons

8. Hugh (Minh Tri) Slingsby BETHELL (b 1997, s of (7), unm)

9. Christopher (Minh Kiet) Slingsby BETHELL (b 2000, s of (7), unm)

10. Christopher Maunsell Slingsby BETHELL (b 1966, son of (6)) divorced no issue
