From the Telegraph of 29 June 2023: Mr R.G.B. Palmer and Lady Claudia Marquis The engagement is announced between Rupert, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Christopher Palmer, of Ogbourne St George, Wiltshire, and Claudia, youngest daughter of the Earl of Woolton and the Hon Mrs Montgomery.

Richard would appear to have correctly identified the names of the prospective bridegroom's mother and maternal grandfather. However, the Jacqueline C ROUSE whose birth was registered in Exeter in Q4 1954 would not seem to be the prospective bridegroom's mother, because her mother's maiden name was given as DOGGETT, rather than BAIRD.

Col Adrian Dermot St Clair ROUSE, MBE was married, firstly, to (as her first husband) Valerie L BAIRD in 1953 (registered Q4 - Surrey Northern). In the years that followed, they appear to have had four children - records on the ancestry.com website show Col Rouse (born 21 IX 1925) and his wife (born 21 VII 1934) travelling together with their sons (Piers, born on 3 III 1956 and Edmund, born on 30 VI 1957) and daughters (Jacqueline, born on 18 XI 1954 and Vivian, born on 18 V 1959). The birth of Piers was registered in Marlborough in Q1 1956, with his mother's maiden name given as Baird, but I could find no English birth records for the other three children. From the GRO Army Birth Indices, Vivian was born in Uganda, and it appears from another source that Edmund was born in Kenya. I suspect that Jacqueline may therefore also have been born overseas.

Edmund Clive Tristram ROUSE was married in 1990 to Nicola J ("Nicky") TOYNBEE (born 1961), the daughter of Michael Robert TOYNBEE (26 XI 1925 - 26 X 2020), of that family, which last appeared in Burke's Landed Gentry in the 1952 edition, and his wife (married 1953), Yvonne Norah CLELAND (1930 - 12 V 1996). Mrs Nicky Rouse is a step-fourth cousin of the journalist and writer Mary Louisa ("Polly") TOYNBEE (Mrs Walker, born 27 XII 1946), they both being 4 x greats-granddaughters of George TOYNBEE (26 II 1783 - 25 IV 1865), Mrs Walker by his first wife (married 21 V 1811), Elizabeth CULLEN (1785 -1820), and Mrs Rouse by his second wife (married 14 IV 1821), Sarah OBBINSON (c.1798 - 1872?).

Vivian S ROUSE was married in 1982 to Conor John Anthony O'BRIEN, 19th Baron Inchiquin (born 24 IX 1952), who succeeded to that peerage on the death of his second cousin, the 18th Baron, on 3 June 2023.
