This Knollys family being (as one might imagine) of the family of Sir William Knollys, created Earl of Banbury 1626, but not appearing in the pedigree I saved from the Burke's website many years back. According to my notes:

This branch of the family descends from Rev. Francis Knollys, third (?) son of Rev. Charles Knollys (himself son of Charles Knollys [c. 1662-1740], who petitioned to be recognised as 4th Earl of Banbury, but this was not approved; he was son of Nicholas Knollys, who adopted the surname of Vaux, that being the name of his step [possibly biological, if the question mark in the pedigree is to be considered] father, the 4th Baron Vaux of Harrowden, who settled his estates upon him; Nicholas Knollys/ Vaux's father being the 1st Earl of Banbury as above).

Rev. Charles Knollys (1703-1771), M.A. Christ Church, Oxon., vicar of Burford, Oxon. 1750-71, married Martha Hughes; only their two elder sons, William and Thomas Woods, feature in the pedigree I saved from Burke's (I can't get to my BP 2003 at the moment, so can't check if this omission exists in the published version and the absence of same from the online pedigree is an error; if this information is already well-known just ignore!). The third son was Francis Knollys (1742-1826), educ. Magdalen Hall, Oxon., vicar of Burford 1771-1826, rector of Burthorpe, Glos., J.P. His eldest son, James (1776-1860), educ. Trinity Coll., Oxon. (B.A. 1798, M.A. 1801, B.D. 1809), fellow of Lincoln Coll., Oxon. 1798-1815, vicar of Penn, Bucks., in 1823, perpetual curate of Maidenhead, Berks. in 1819, by his wife Frances, dau. of Thomas Hall, of Harpsden Court, Harpsden, Oxon., had a second son, James Edward.

James Edward Knollys (1818-1892), of Fitzhead Court, Taunton, Somerset, land agent (educated by the Duke of Portland's agent), chairman (1888-9), Somerset, Dorset and Bristol Committee, Institute of Surveyors, inspector for H.M. Board of Agriculture, J.P., by his wife Elizabeth Olive, dau. of Rev. Robert Holdsworth, vicar of Brixham, Devons., had a third son, Cyprian Robert (1868-1940), of Fitzhead Court, also of Swarraton, Hants., educ. Harrow, land agent, who by his wife Audrey, dau. of James Eardley Hill, M.A., of Paddington, barrister (s. of Sir Hugh Hill, Q.C., of Oxford Square), was father of Vernon Robert (as in Richard's post) as well as (Edward) Eardley Knollys (1902-1991), of Slade Hill House, Hants., formerly of Long Crichel, Dorset, artist, a friend of James Lees-Milne and appearing in his autobiographical writings etc.
