From the Telegraph and Times of 2 August 2019: MR R-C VAN EXTER AND COUNTESS M ZU STOLBERG-WERNIGERODE The marriage took place on Saturday 13 July, at St Mauritius Church, Saanen, Switzerland, between Robert-Charles van Exter and Marie zu Stolberg-Wernigerode.

Countess Marie Victoria Anna Ramona (b 1979) d of Count Hermann ZU STOLBERG-WERNIGERODE (b 1943) and Countess Angelina VON OEYNHAUSEN (b 1949).

Among many other British connections:

Her great-grandmother, Elisabeth Gräfin zu Stolberg-Wernigerode, née Prinzessin zu Erbach-Schönberg, was first cousin of the mother of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Her mother's family, the Oeynhausens, descend from Sophia Juliana von der Schulenburg, whose sister, the Duchess of Kendal, was mistress of King George I.

Interesting that the details of Count Hermann's ancestry show Alexander Prinz von Hessen und bei Rhein, founder of the Battenbergs -Mountbattens, as the son of Auguste Louis Freiherr von Senarclens-Grancy and Wilhelmine of Baden, the estranged wife (and first cousin) of Grand Duke Ludwig II of Hesse. I had read about this suspected Senarclens paternity in a biography of the Duke of Edinburgh but not anywhere else until now. The standard references such as Burke's Peerage (entry for Marquess of Milford Haven) list the full Hesse lineage that Earl Mountbatten of Burma so prized. Studying the dates in BP, Ludwig and Wilhelmine married in 1804, had sons Ludwig and Karl in the first few years of marriage. Alexander was born in 1823 and sister Marie, the future Empress of Russia, in 1824.

I don't think that anything has ever been proved. It may be that Alexander was a bastard, and it is understandable why people suspected it, but I've never seen any actual evidence that it was so. Certainly he was acknowledged and accepted by the Grand Duke and the rest of the family.

Louis II, Grand Duke of Hesse, bought the property of Heiligenberg near Jugenheim in 1820, installing his chamberlain, Senarclens de Grancy, there. From the year of that acquisition Grand Duchess Wilhelmine no longer lived with her consort, with whom she had not had any children since 1809, and proceeded to give birth four times between 1821 and 1824. Senarclens's identity as the father of the later children of Wilhelmine was strongly suspected: correspondence asserting or repeating the allegation was recorded by several government ministers, ambassadors and sovereigns, including Tsar Nicholas I and Queen Victoria.

Robert-Charles (Charlie) van Exter (b.1979) appears to be, from various legal sources, the son of Dr Robert van Exter (d. by 2009) and Rose-Marie Merey de Kaposmere et Kisdovoran (b.1952, (? daughter of Dr Georg Merey de Kaposmere et Kisdovoran)). Rose-Marie is now wife to Baron Friedrich von Oppenheim (b.1937) of Boswell’s Farm, Wendover.

Anne-Laure, who i take to be Charlie’s sister, m. 2009 Andres de Orleans-Borbon (b.1976), son of Don Alvaro de Orleans-Borbon and Dona Giovanna de Orleans-Borbon.
