Does anyone know if the sons of the uncle of the current earl have
married and had children since Debretts 2000?

There is only one son of the late Hon James Angus Grey McDonnell
(1917-2004) yr son of 7th Earl. He is Sorley James McDonnell b1940 & m
(c1970) Ngawaiata Mei, da of Te Nagaelie Wauikau, of Wellington, NZ.
Debrett 08 shows him as having ' a da b1970' and no other details.
The present earl's brother, the Hon Hector John McDonnell b1947
(divorced) has a son called Colquitto Angus McDonnell b1972.

Shouldn't the title of this thread be Viscountess Dunluce, rather than
the hon?

The Antrims were substantial landowners in Ulster, holding 152,000
acres in 1734 whih substantially reduced in the following hundred
years, partly owing to legal disputes following the death of the 6th
Earl (first creation), leaving 34,292 acres by 1871. Most of the
estate was sold to tenants under special legislation introduced in
Ireland at the turn of the 19th century, and several sources indicate
that the estate now comprises around 4,500 acres.

I would say that the Antrims are one of the foremost Catholic
Ascendancy families in Ireland, certainly in the peerage, alongside
the Earls of Granard, in the same way as the Norfolks and Petres are
in England.

Interestingly the late husband of the present Earl's sister, Joseph
Andrew Christopher Hoare (d. 2002), who married Lady Christina in
1963, was the son of the diplomat and banker Sir Reginald Hoare
(1882-1954), whose mother was Lucy Cavendish-Bentinck (1907-1971).
Lucy was the sister of the 8th and 9th Dukes of Portland but her
mother was Ruth Mary St. Maur, illegitimate daughter of Edward
Adolphus Ferdinand St. Maur, son of the 12th Duke of Somerset, which
brings us neatly back to another recent thread!

Also the present Earl's first wife was Sarah Harmsworth, whose
grandfather Vyvyan Harmsworth (b. 1881) was the youngest brother of
the newspaper barons Viscounts Northcliffe and Rothermere.

Speaking of the Earl of Granard and Forbes Castle, or Castle Forbes,
is the current earl resident there? I know that the previous earl had
one dau and in Debretts 2000 his widow is listed as living there and
the dau in Switz, but the current earl was listed as living on Cliff
or some place with a name like that. What is the acerage around Forbes
Castle/Castle Forbes (I know that one is in Scotland belongs to Lord
Forbes, but I always get confused) Incidently the earl of Granard are
not listed in the collaterals of the Lordship of Forbes when they
should be.
