It seems very likely that Mrs Pole-Carew was the Gillian E Burton whose birth was registered in Tynemouth in Q3 1931 (mother's maiden name Elliott). Clive Mence BURTON (15 X 1904 - 5 I 1983) was her father by his second wife, Anne Elizabeth ELLIOTT (10 IX 1905 - 29 XII 1981).

Clive Mence Burton was the sixth and youngest child of Edward Pritchard BURTON (1857 - 23 VII 1924), of the firm of Pritchard and Burton, tobacco manufacturers, and his wife (married 1880), Ada Maude McRAE (1859 - 20 XII 1943). His brother, Brig Colin BURTON, CBE, DSO (1883 - 4 V 1945), was married on 10 April 1907 to Gladys Astley COOPER (1883 - 18 XI 1937), a granddaughter of Sir Astley Paston COOPER, 2nd Bt (13 I 1798 - 6 I 1866).
