From the Times of 19 May 2010:

Mary Luz ARBUTHNOT LESLIE
of Warthill. Peacefully in the tender care of Muirhead Care Home,
Aberdeenshire, on Thursday 13th May 2010, Mary Luz, aged 86 years,
wife of the late Anthony Stainton, much loved mother of Sebastian and
the late Sofia Stainton, mother in law to Candida and a devoted
grandmother. Funeral Service and interment at Rayne Parish Church AB51
5AH, on Friday 21st May at 11am and afterwards at Warthill. All
welcome.

She was the dau of William ARBUTHNOT-LESLIE, 12th of Warthill, of that
Scots gentry family, and his 1st wife Maria de la Luz, dau of Don
Guillermo de Landa y Escandon, Gov of Mexico City. She m 1950 Capt
Anthony Thomas STAINTON, son of E L Stainton, and had a son and a dau
as above. Her son, Sebastian ARBUTHNOTT LESLIE (adopted his mother's
maiden name of Leslie in lieu of his patrymonic of Stainton) probable
representer of the family of Leslie of Warthill 14th of Warthill, (but
not yet recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms), was b 1954 and m
Candida Mary (b 1956) dau of Lt-Col Humphrey Joseph Giles WELD MC JP,
head of that gentry family of Chideock, Dorset and Frances Mary (dau
of late Maj Hon Alastair Thomas Joseph FRASER, scion of the Lords
LOVAT) and has issue.

A friend whose expertise lies in a Spanish/South/Central American
nobility, sent me the following info:

"Photos below show her maternal grandfather Don Guillermo de Landa y
Escandón together with Don Porfirio Díaz.

Centenario de la Independencia Mexicana

Through her mother she was related to Mexican nobility. Don Wenceslao
de Landa y Escandón was ancestor of the present Marquesa de Rivas
Cacho, Condesa de la Presa de Jalpa and the present Marqués de
Salvatierra de Peralta."
