This is a daughter of the 3rd Duke of Richmond, if I have this correct

Ages and seniority not clear

Mary Bennett (1804 - 20 December 1878 Villa Corsi, Florence) md (as
his 2nd wife) 16 Oct 1824 (separated 1832) Lt Col. William Light (27
April
1786 Kuala Kedah, Malaya [bapt 31 December 1786]- Thebarton on the
River
Torrens 6 October 1839; bur Light Square, Adelaide) founder of
Adelaide.
She had three children, two by a Captain Bowen, and one by Walter
Savage Landor but all bore the surname of Light (her husband's name)
after the death of William Light. She began to live with another man
circa circa 1830/1832.

Is Walter Savage Landor the essayist and scholar (1775-1864?)? Any
further news of the issue and descendants of Mary Bennett Light?

Mary Bennett was apparently full sister of Caroline Bennett (d 5
September 1836), who married 1824 a legitimate cousin Lt Commander
Henry Edward Napier (5 March 1789 - 13 October 1853), 5th and yst [but
4th and yst surv] son of Hon George Napier by his wife Lady Sarah
Lennox. One son died in 1827

[erroneously attributes three children to his first wife, not
mentioned in any other source[
Light's first wife survived long enough to have three children with
someone else, though her ultimate fate is not known. In 1824 Light
married Mary Bennet, the natural daughter of Charles Lennox, the third
duke of Richmond. The marriage allowed Light to live well; the couple
travelled in Europe for several years and in 1827 purchased a yacht
and cruised around the Mediterranean for a further three years.
...During his absence his wife deserted him for another man and the
couple separated in 1832.
..In October 1839 he died of tuberculosis, and was buried at Light
Square, Adelaide. Light died a poor man and, as far as is known, had
no children with either wife or mistress.

Family background from ODNB Light, William (1786–1839), surveyor and
founder of Adelaide, was born in Kuala Kedah, Malaya, on 27 April
1786, the second son of Captain Francis Light, RN (bap. 1740, d.
1794), and Martinha Rozells, said to have been a Malay princess but
who was most probably a Portuguese Eurasian. He had at least one
brother and one sister.

[His father was illegitimate son of a squire William Negus, a Suffolk
landowner, and a serving girl Mary Light; his mother's ancestry is
obscure for understandable reasons. He had at least one younger
brother and at least three sisters per another website].

[his second wife]

In 1824 he married Mary Bennet, a natural daughter of the third Duke
of Richmond. His wife's wealth was important to Light since his
father's extensive estates on Penang had been filched by his father's
friends from the ignorant Martinha. The couple travelled widely in
Europe....Light separated from his wife in 1832 because, during his
absence from Egypt, she had been living with another man, by whom she
later had three children. These children were later given the name of
Light. At his death Light appointed [his mistress] Maria Gandy his
sole executrix and beneficiary

In 1824 he married the wealthy Mary Bennet and together they travelled
in Europe and cruised the Mediterranean in their yacht Gulnare. They
also spent time in Egypt where Light helped to recruit personnel for
the Egyptian Navy, and later brought the paddle steamer Nile from
England to join the Navy

....

William Light died at his home at Thebarton on the River Torrens on 6
October 1839, and was buried in Light Square, Adelaide.
