David Wemyss of that Ilk, late Captain Royal Corps of Signals, scion of
the Earls of Wemyss & March, and a grandson maternally of the 6th Duke
of Portland, died 26 January, 2005, at Invermay, Forteviot, Perthshire.

He was born in 1920, son of Capt. Michael John Wemyss of Wemyss
(1888-1982), by his wife Lady Victoria Alexandrina Violet Cavendish
Bentinck, CVO (who d. in 1994, aged 104), daughter of the 6th Duke of
Portland.

His mother was a Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth The Queen
Mother.

David Wemyss's father was recognised as Chief of the name Wemyss, by
Lord Lyon King of Arms in 1910.

He married in 1945, Lady Jean Christian Bruce, daughter of the 10th
Earl of Elgin and Kincardine, by whom he had two sons, Michael (b.
1947), of Wemyss Castle, and Charles (b. 1952), who is married to
Fiona, daughter of Colonel Sir Eric Penn, GCVO, and Lady Penn (also a
Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth).

Funeral Service at Wemyss Castle, Fife on Tuesday, 1 February, 2005,
followed by interment at Chapel Gardens, West Wemyss.

His son, Michael, now succeeds as Chief of the name Wemyss. He is
married to Charlotte Mary Bristowe and is father of 2 daughters.
