Following on from my above post in May 2022 when I was able to confirm there were no descendants of a NIGHTINGALE collateral who Debrett's had lost track of, I think I can solve another:

The database gives:
Descendants, if any, of late George Lacy Nightingale (b 1877), of Washington DC, son of late James Wilson Nightingale (1845-97), of USA, 2nd son of late George Lacy Nightingale (1815-59), of Iowa, USA [descended from 11th bt].

It appears he died 8 Nov 1901 South Carolina, US

There are two newspaper clippings on the attached, neither mention any marriage or issue, but both mention that he was engaged to be married but that had not taken place.  On this basis he has no legitimate issue and the this line is accounted for.

Kershaw lists this baronetcy as B 1985 (to dorm).  With this line accounted, for the possibility of a dormancy is removed, and a more distant collateral should cause the status to change to B 2000 (I think).

However, there may well be legitimate descendants of the older brother of George Lacy Nightingale's father., not mentioned at all in Debrett's.

It seems that Debrett's had long ago almost totally lost contact with this American branch. In the 1920 Debrett's, Henry Dickenson Nightingale is listed as unmarried, though he had apparently married in 1879 and had Frederick in 1880. Frederick himself had had several children already by 1920, none of whom was mentioned in Debrett's 1920.

It's always interesting to compare findagrave info against death notices/obituaries.  Frederick Lacy Nightingale's 2nd son Lawrence Lacy [Shorty] m Christine Mabel Schmidt (according to findagrave) though according to her death notice she was Christina.  Two daughters (Marjorie and Florence) referred to in the death notice are not on the findagrave entry so presumably are still alive but the sons are all accounted for.  Christine/a had numerous descendants including 3 great-great grandchildren at the date of her death so hopefully among them will be some who are in remainder to the baronetcy. Only Jerry [Gerald Lee] appears to have been unmarried (or possibly divorced)
