ANGELA FELL OBITUARY

Angela Daphne Rachel Fell, 99, of Waverly Heights, Gladwyne, passed away on May 16. Her two children, Rachel McDermott and Peter Fell, and daughter-in-law, Stefanie Proessl, were by her side as she died. Daphne was born on February 4, 1923, in Yorkshire, England, to Sir Godfrey Middleton Bosville Macdonald of Sleat [15th Baronet] and Rachel Macdonald (née Campbell), Lady of the Isles. She served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS) in Portsmouth during WWII, 1943-1946, and then worked in the War Office in London until she emigrated to Vancouver, B.C., in 1956. There she met James Michael Gardner Fell, and they married on July 4, 1957. They lived in Seattle, WA, from 1957 to 1965, when they moved to Philadelphia, where Michael became Professor of Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania. They joined All Saints’ Church, Wynnewood, in 1965, and Daphne spent much of her life volunteering in church-related activities: serving on the altar guild and vestry and creating her own ministry to shut-ins, whom she visited regularly with tea, baked goods, and a comforting ear for their troubles and concerns. She shared Michael’s love for Iceland, where they spent many summers over the course of their 60s, 70s, and 80s. After Michael died in 2016, Daphne bore the decline of her physical abilities with patience, forbearance, and faith. She was one of the many who bravely served her country in World War II and now has passed from us. Daphne is mourned by her children, Rachel and Peter, son-inlaw Scott, grandson James, and daughter-in-law Stefanie. Funeral services will be held at All Saint’s Church, Wynnewood (1325 Montgomery Avenue), on Saturday, May 28, at 11 am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to All Saints’ Church. STUARD – NEWTOWN SQUARE A FAMILY TRADITION SINCE 1822
