Does anyone have any information on Patrick Charles Carnegy (b. 1940)
the new earl?

The new earl's heir presumptive is his brother, who has three sons
born between 75 and 81, though I am not sure if any of them are
married? Where that line to fail then, there is Angus b 64, who has
four sons born between 95 and 2006.

The new peer is an eighth cousin once removed of the deceased peer.
Surely one of the most distant relationship between a peer and his
predecessor since the Earl of Lincoln succeeded the last Duke of
Newcastle?

_.The deceeased peer was David John MacRae [Carnegie], 14th Earl of
Northesk (b 3 Nov 1954), son of the 13th Earl (1926-94), by his wife
the former Jean Margaret MacRae (d 1989), descended from the
Marquesses of Bristol. Succeeded to the peerages on the demise of his
father, 26 Jan 1994; married 1979, Jacqueline May Reid, 1st adopted
dau. of David Lorne Dundas Reid, of Cintra, Portugal, by whom he had
issue, one son Alexander Robert MacRae Carnegie, styled Lord Rosehill
(b. 16 Nov 1980; dvp. 31 Aug 2001), and three daughters, Lady Sarah
Louise Mary Carnegie (b. 29 Oct 1982), Lady Fiona Jean Elizabeth
Carnegie (b. 24 Mar 1987), and Lady Sophie Margaret Jean Carnegie (b.
9 Jan 1990).

The Heir presumptive of the new earl is his brother who has three sons
born between 1975 and 1981 though none of them are married, should
that line fail then there is always Angus b 1964 who has four sons
born between 1995 and 2006

He has a brother who has three sons born between 75 and 81 though none
of them are married, should this line eventually fail then there is
that of Angus b 64 who has four sons born between 95 and 2006, so
things are looking relatively bright for the earldom.

Michael posted news of the engagement of the heir presumptive's heir
in June 2007:

And the marriage took place in 2008. They have a dau Emelia Coco Rose
(b 2009). Perhaps a brother for Emelia is not too far behind?

(The later info is from a friend of a friend of the family.)

Further to the recent talk about the use of the title MASTER can the
new heir call himself Master of Northesk ?

I assume so; though I can only find one reference to the title being
used, and then in conjunction with that of the courtesy title Lord
Rosehill:

I'm not sure that Master of ... is a title that is conferred. It seems
generally to be assumed.

Yes, the hp could take the title of Master of Northesk. It's not been
used by any previous heir (apparent or presumed) as far as I can see.
The 5th Earl's brother was the hp between 1729 and 1741 (succeeding as
6th earl on the latter date) but did not assume the courtesy style.

The late Earl's daughter Lady Sarah is to marry next month; the death
has a terribly sad timing.

Is there a new Countess?

No new Countess. The new earl is a bachelor

decessit vita patris [died in the lifetime of his father].

(One occasionally sees d.v.m.)

It seems to be quite an unlucky earldom in recent years. Lord
Northesk's elder brother having been accidentally drowned in infancy,
his eldest child, and only son, Lord Rosehill, a psychiatric patient,
shot himself in the head with his father's gun and Lord Northesk
himself dies at age 55 from undisclosed causes.

His death will necessitate a by election in The Lords.
