He was the s of Capt Raymond LORT-PHILLIPS (1903-1980), sometime Head of the Lort-Phillips gentry family f/o Down Grange (BLG 1965) and (m 1929) Violet Susan May St AUBYN (d 2009 aged 100) scion of the Barons St Levan.  He appears in Debrett's under Baron Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton being descended from Theresa STOURTON eldest da of the 18th Baron Stourton and who m 1838 the 11th Baron Arundell of Wardour. He m (1) 1971  (as her 2nd h, her 1st h being the 10th Baron Calthorpe) Saranne Frances nee ALEXANDER (d 1984), (2) 1995 (div 1999) Melanie Susan Clara DARGIE and (3) 2002 Mrs Marie Francoise MANCHESTER nee LE VEVE.
