From the Times of 6 June 2014: SEBAG-MONTEFIORE  Dr Stephen Eric died on 1st June 2014, aged 87. Most tenderly loved husband of 62 years of April, father of 4 sons, grandfather of 11, great grandfather of 3, and adored doctor and friend to many. No flowers. Private funeral.

He was s of Lt-Col Eric SEBAG-MONTEFIORE (1899-1991), scion of the gentry family of that name formerly of East Cliff Lodge, and Audrey Mabel Rose (1899-1984) d of Henry Hyman HALDIN KC (1863-1931) and Mabel Julia (1874-1970) d of Sir Herbert Samuel LEON 1st Bt (1850-1926) and his 1st wife Esther Julia BEDDINGTON (d 1875). He m 1952 (Phyllis) April d of Dr Henry Norman JAFFE, and had 4 sons. Their youngest son (born too late to be included in the 1965 volume of BLG) is the historian and writer Simon Jonathan (b 1965). He m 1998 Santa (b 1970, sister of the socialite Tara and d of Charles PALMER-TOMKINSON (b 1940), head of that gentry family and scion of the SMITH family of Shottesbrooke Park*, and Patricia (Patti) DAWSON), by whom he has a son and a dau.

* Fellow posters won't need me to detail the many connections this SMITH descent gives Charles Palmer-Tomkinson and his kin. Suffice to say he's THE QUEEN'S 3rd cousin twice removed and her son's 4th cousin once removed.

Charles Palmer-Tomkinson is a son of a 3rd cousin of Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

  • Indeed, Oswald Smith and Henrietta Hodgson are at the same time
    • ancestors of the 4th generation of Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
    • ancestors of the 5th generation of Charles Palmer-Tomkinson

Thanks. Which I think makes him a 4th cousin once removed of the Prince of Wales.
