The Life Peer Lord HASELHURST died on 1 June 2026, aged 88.

He was born Alan Gordon Barraclough HASELHURST on 23 June 1937, son of John HASELHURST by his 1936 m (reg Q2 Hemsworth) to Alice BARRACLOUGH. He m 16 Apr 1977 Angela Margaret BAILEY, and had 2 sons and 1 daughter.

He served as Member of Parliament (Conservative) for Middleton and Prestwich from 1970-February 1974 and Saffron Walden from 1977-2017, and as a Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons from 1997-2010. He was knighted in 1995 and sworn of the Privy Council in 1999, and was further honoured by being created a Life Peer as Baron Haselhurst, of Saffron Walden in the County of Essex, on 22 June 2018.
