Thanks Leigh! Does anyone know if the family still have any acreage in
Scotland, I noticed from previous editions of Debretts that the late
viscount was listed as living in some hall somewhere, but the latest
editions list his address as the House of Lords.

_Mark Colville was an eminent lawyer whose success rested on his
mastery of the intricacies of planning law. His skill enabled
governments of different complexions to secure approval of planning
applications for controversial projects such as the Selby coalfield in
North Yorkshire and the Sizewell B nuclear power station in Suffolk

The Telegraph have published an obit
It mentions his involvement in Lords reform and the Peerage Act of
1963: '...After Tony Benn's failed attempt to stay in the Commons
rather than become Lord Stansgate, Colville was appointed to a select
committee of MPs and peers on Lords reform. They agreed that heirs
succeeding to a title should be able to disclaim, but Colville was in
a narrow minority opposed to peers who had taken their seats being
allowed to in future. Had one more sided with him, Lords Home and
Hailsham would have been unable to disclaim when Macmillan resigned,
and RA Butler would have become prime minister....'
