From the Telegraph of 4 Jan 2025: ABEL SMITH David. Much loved husband of Lucy and beloved father of Eliza and grandfather of Cressida. Died peacefully aged 84 on Christmas morning. Private funeral service at St Swithin's Church, Quenington with  a Memorial Service to follow at St Mary's the Virgin, Fairford on 6th February at 2 p.m.

He was s of Brig Sir Alexander ABEL SMITH KCVO TD (3xgt gs of Abel SMITH MP 1717-88 the banker and, therefore, a distant cousin of the The KING and many other members of the families of whom we treat, etc) and his 1^st w Elizabeth Knight d 1948 d of David B Morgan of North Carolina. He m 1982 Lucy Marie b 1950 d of Col Sir Bryce Muir KNOX KCVO MC TD 1916-2003 scion of that gentry family of Place and Patricia Mary DUNSMUIR 1923-89, and had a dau, Eliza Violet Daria b 1991 who m c2022 (eng 2 March) Simon Victor b 1986 reg Q4 Reading s of Martin V[ictor] BOWCOCK b 1955 reg Q2 Cheshire by his 1982 m reg Q3 Staffs to Diane TAYLOR, and had a dau Cressida as above.

He was thus a nephew of Sir Henry Abel Smith, who married Lady May Cambridge.
