A 'Lady Gaenor Meakes' has appeared in most of today's newspapers in Australia as being a Sydney landlord who is suing a prominent former political adviser/criminal over his rental of her house.

A quick google shows she has appeared in the Australian social pages for about 10 years as the partner of "champion yachtsman Mark Richards." Other than that, she does not appear anywhere else online. I have drawn a blank looking for her in thepeerage.com & there has never been a knight in Australia by that name. The last knighthood given out on an Australian Honours List was 1989 in any case.

Can anyone place this 'Lady?" There is a photo of her at the above URL.

There have been a handful of "Australians" whom received a Damehood in a non British honour and assume the style of "Lady". Also can be a member of the many self-styled Noble orders that have been around in Australia over the years. I am hoping she has received a Foreign Order and simply styled it in an anglicised manner.

Wikipedia conveniently has a list of living Australians who have received a damehood or knighthood from the monarch from any of His Majesty's realms https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Australian_knights_and_dames  which I have always found to be accurate, and she is not listed.

I think the foreign order is more likely, but permission from the Governor-General has never been granted to use a foreign title in Australia. Even an Australian who received a DBE while working in the UK was told she couldn't use the title here!

In this day and age, no one bothers with obtaining recognition. It seems that she is quite wealthy and involved with the Republic of Seychelles. Styling oneself at the hest of others acknowledging it.
