The only connection I can find is that Frederick P P, Baron von Westenholz, appears to be the brother of Charles Patrick Paul von Westenholz (d2016) who was married to Lady Mary M A Kerr (b1944) sister of the Marquess of Lothian.  My limited searches suggest that they are the sons of Baron Henry von Westenholz. of Hertfordshire and that they have a sister, Antoinette Marie, who married Charles Evelyn Penn Lucas, a great grandson of the 1st Baronet Lucas.

Thanks. Any advance on these lateral connections from anyone? I'm looking to give little Cleopatra a descent from one of the families of whom we treat.

Henry Friedrich Everhard (I've also seen 'Frederick Everard'- probably anglicisation on his part or someone else's) von Westenholz was married (1stly- 1941, div. 1968 [his second wife- m. 1969- was Flora Evelyn Innes Stuart, formerly wife of the M.P. Sir John Anthony Langford-Holt]) to Marguerite Gordon, dau. of Capt. Gordon Stewart Ness, of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, a Lloyd's underwriter; his father was Patrick Ness, of Braco Castle, Perthshire, which seemed initially promising (i.e. indicative of a gentry background) but, at least based on what little I could find, turned out not to be. At any rate, Captain Ness's son, Major Anthony Patrick Ness, married as her second husband Princess Frederick of Russia, née Lady Brigid Guinness, dau. of the 2nd Earl of Iveagh.

I took a look at the Maudes just in case there was any connection to Angus Maude, a life peer but I thought of some notable ancestry (I might be wrong, however)- unfortunately nothing came of that either, as Group-Capt. Christopher Edward Maude, R.A.F. was son of a solicitor at Sevenoaks and Hampstead, whose father was a Yorkshireman. One point of minor note is that C. E. Maude's wife was, it seems, Ruth Anne SandwiTh, daughter of Fleming Mant Sandwith (son of Colonel John William Fleming Sandwith, of Bombay) by his wife Gladys Frances May (presumably a cousin- haven't had time to check this yet), dau. of Humphrey Sandwith ('IV'), an Army physician and writer- also Governor of Mauritius- of a somewhat prominent Wesleyan family.

Nothing terribly useful, I'm afraid, but a few notes nonetheless!

Sigh... a correction needed! Thomas James Maude (1819-1904), the 'Yorkshireman' regarding whom I couldn't initially locate much information, was, sure enough, father of both William Maude (b. 1853), father to Christopher Edward Maude (as above), and Edmund Maude, J.P. (b. 1856), the father of Alan Hamer Maude, father of Angus Maude, M.P. (Baron Maude of Stratford-upon-Avon). It seems T. J. Maude was wealthy given the number of servants and 'living on his own means'- an earlier census record gave him as a 'proprietor of houses in public...'- I imagine the rest of the sentence was cut off! Some kind of wealthy landlord, anyway.

This is all great stuff thanks. I had hoped for a descent from the Blackwood Bts but, posting from the office, I don't have access to the vast array of records I have at home.

I think, G Willis, everything you have provided is useful since it identifies antecedents, noble or otherwise, which is always very useful, and adds to the group's reputation as the 'go-to' place to answer questions of this sort.

Thanks Richard; it's always fun to try and sort through these things when one gets the chance!

In connection with which, I wondered about the 'Innes Stuart', which whilst not entirely relevant to the new child's ancestry, rang a faint bell (falsely, it would seem), and I found the following:

Flora Evelyn Innes Stuart b. 1929 (in Italy) was dau. of Ian St Clair Stuart (1892-1942), a soldier (Gazette shows 2nd Lt, possibly higher ranks not found), presumably of Scottish origin by lack of birth record I could find, by his wife Katharine Eleanora Innes, dau. of George Dodsworth Stawell, of Hill End Grove, Henbury, Glos. I found a source detailing these Stawells back to county Cork [see here for full details- quite long and very detailed though! http://www.corkpastandpresent.ie/places/northcorkcounty/grovewhitenotes/cliffordtocurrymount/gw2_275_286.pdf], and according to that document they were of Crobeg; the family are detailed in BLGI 1912- also connected (see the same document) to the families of Coolmain and of Kilbrittain and Lisnegar, co. Cork, treated in that same volume.

George D. Stawell had married Eleanora Mabel, dau. of Edward Byrom, of Culver, Devon. This family is treated in BLG 1969 as Eden (formerly Byrom) of Culver.

So a few more tangentially-related connections of potential interest!
