He was s of Maj Leonard Proby HAVILAND 1884-1971 (bro of Capt Wilfred Pollen HAVILAND MBE 1881-1947 sometime head of that gentry family of Delrow House) and Helen Dorothea 1902-72 d of Gen Sir Charles FERGUSSON of Kilkerran 7th Bt 1865-1951 and Lady Alice Mary BOYLE 1877-1958 d of 7th Earl of GLASGOW 1833-1915. He m 1959 Caroline Victoria b 1930 d of George Freeland BARBOUR 1882-1946 (s of Charlotte Rachel 1856-1930 of Sir Robert Nicholas FOWLER 1st Bt 1828-91) and Hon Helen Victoria HEPBURN-SCOTT 1891-1982 d of 9th Lord POLWARTH 1864-1944 and Edith Frances 1867-1930 d of Sir Thomas Fowell BUXTON 3rd Bt 1837-1915 and Lady Victoria NOEL 1839-1916 d of 1st Earl of GAINSBOROUGH 1781-1866 (and gd of 3rd Earl of RODEN 1788-1870), and had three sons as below.

Julian Haviland, journalist, was born on June 8, 1930. He died on August 11, 2023, aged 93

One could say that Capt Wilfred Haviland was the founder (and only head?) of the gentry family as it was he who purchased Delrow House ("now in institutional use") Herts in only 1929.  Possibly cadets of Haviland of Ditton Hall (BLG1900)?
