A friend of mine has just emailed me with a number of entries shown in the Obituary section of the newly-published Who's Who for 2009, including
a number of deaths of which I was unaware, and maybe this group was as well.....

* Michael James Shaughnessy, 4th Baron Shaughnessy - died 9 December 2007. Does anyone have any information about the next heir? According to the 106th Burke, the next heir appears to be Alfred James Shaughnessy, second son of the second son of the 1st Baron. However, I note that he was born in 1916, making him 92 if still alive. I'm hesitant to assume that he is the next heir, as he may well have died in the meantime.....

* Sir Edward Francis Lauder Brunton, 3rd baronet [UK 1908] - died 1 January 2007 [presumably succeeded by his son James Lauder Brunton, born 24 Sept 1947?]

* Sir William Codrington, 8th baronet [GB 1721] - died 1 December 2006 [presumably succeeded by his brother Giles Peter Codrington, born 28 October 1943?]

* Sir John Gregory Foster, 3rd baronet [UK 1930] - died 24 November 2006 [presumably succeeded by his son Saxby Gregory Foster, born 3 September 1957?]

* Sir Henry John Wardlaw, 21st baronet [NS 1631] - died 8 May 2005 [ presumably succeeded by his son Henry Justin Wardlaw, born 10 August 1963?]

* James Herwald Ramsbotham, 2nd Viscount Soulbury - all I knew was that he had died in late 2004. The 2009 Who's Who gives the date as 12 December 2004.

I would be grateful if members of the group could advise who now succeeds to the barony of Shaughnessy, and could confirm the successions in each of the baronetcies.

About the Baron Shaughnessy ... Alfred James Shaughnessy has died in
2005. The new baron is his oldest son, the actor Charles George
Patrick Shaughnessy (born 1955) (has two daughters). His heir
presumptive is his younger brother David James Bradford Shaughnessy
(born 1957).

Thanks, Leigh, for your post.

Per Debrett's 2008--

Re: the Shaughnessy barony-- this one is in trouble. As Phoen said,
the new Baron is Charles with his brother David as hp. The hp only
has (3) daughters and there are no other males in remainder.

That would be the case as DB has James as ha. He has 2 sons, one from
each of his marriages and no one else in remainder. Eldest son (new
ha) is Douglas Lauder, b. 1968

DB lists Sir Saxby as 4th Bt. His eldest son, Thomas James Gregory,
b. 1991 is ha.

DB lists Sir Henry Justin already as 22nd Bt. Eldest son Henry James,
b. 1999 is ha.

DB just says that Sir Peter (who succeeded his brother as 3rd
Viscount) succeeded in 2004.

Leigh, if you get access to the entire list, could you please post it
here? I would be curious to see if there are others we might have
missed.

Thanks.
