From the Telegraph of 26 March 2020: CRAWLEY Simon Ewen, aged 88, devoted husband of Mary, much loved father of Nick, Priscilla, Juliet and Silas, grandfather and great grandfather, died in Hewish, North Somerset on Tuesday 17th March shortly after the announcement that formal church was to cease and was buried in Healaugh, North Yorkshire on Sunday 22nd March on the day the nation was called to prayer. Priest, prophet, intercessor; job done. A man after God’s own heart.

He was yr s of Leonard George CRAWLEY (1903-81), distinguished sportsman and Daily Telegraph journalist and sometime head of the gentry family of that name formerly of Quarry Hill, and (Christina) Elspeth Fisher (1908-2000) d of Adm John Ewen CAMERON CB MVO (1874-1939), scion of the Scots gentry family CAMERON of Lochiel, and (Marion) Gertrude GRANGER (1881-1949). He m 1956 (Esther) Mary de Vahl (b 1932 reg Q4 Sussex) d of Lt-Cmdr Thomas Lee METTERS RN (1901-86) of Craddock House, Cullompton, Devon by his 1930 m (reg Q3 Sussex) to Henrietta Mary de Vahl CURREY (1903-78), and had two sons and two daus:

1. Nicholas Simon CRAWLEY (b 1958). He m 1990 (reg Q2 London) (Monica) Lucy (b 1965 reg Q2 London) d of _ PEPPIATT and _ DAVIDSON, and had issue:

1.2 Harry Jonathan P[eppiatt] CRAWLEY (b 1993 reg Q3 London)

2. Silas John CRAWLEY (b 1963). He m 1987 (reg Q3 Hampshire) Annabel P (b 1965 reg Q4 Hampshire) d of James W SOPER by his 1962 m (reg Q3 Kent) to Olga J HEDLEY, and had:
2.1 Zachary Zed H CRAWLEY (b 1992 reg Q3 Bristol, Avon)

(Births based on fact that a 'Silas Crawley' DoB March 1963, has a Companies House registration with a Bristol, Avon address). The dates make it possible that they may have had a child born in London.

1. Priscilla Mary Elspeth (b 1959). She m Oliver Geoffrey Woollcombe (b 1947) s of Geoffrey Roy Holland SMITH (1902-64) and Rosamond Margaret Stirling WOOLLCOMBE (1919-91), scion of the gentry family of that name formerly of Ashbury & Hemerdon, and the gentry family of ARGLES of Crudgington Manor, and had issue:

2. Juliet Elizabeth (1961-2007). She m 1991 as his 2nd wife Rory PECK (1956-93, who m 1st Lady Jane ALEXANDRA, d of 6th Earl of CALEDON & had two sons), Northern Irish freelance war cameraman who was killed while covering the events of the 1993 Russian constitutional crisis (see his Wikepedia entry and extract below about his ancestry and relations) and had:
2.1 Lettice PECK (b c1992)

He was born in the United States in 1956, and grew up in north county Dublin, Ireland. He was educated mainly in Dublin, and also briefly in Monaco and the US. On his father's side the Pecks were from Glasgow, Scotland; his mother's family, Titcombe, were from Maine and New York City. His maternal grandmother was from a French-speaking family in New Orleans of French and Spanish descent. There were journalists and many writers in his late father Julian Peck's family including Rawle Knox (foreign correspondent for the Observer), Father Ronald Knox, E.V. Knox (editor of Punch), Winifred Peck, Penelope Fitzgerald.
