The Daily Telegraph has been quick to post an obit:

Ian Cameron, who died yesterday aged 77, was a successful stockbroker
in the City of London and the father of the Prime Minister, David
Cameron.
... the son of Donald Ewen Cameron and his wife Enid (née Levita), who
came from a distinguished Polish banking family. The Camerons had
worked in the City for several generations.
His great-grandfather, Sir Ewen Cameron, came south from
Invernesshire in the 1860s to work for the Hong Kong and Shanghai
Banking Corporation, and helped the Rothschilds to sell war bonds
during the Russo-Japanese war. Ian Cameron’s grandfather, Ewen Ivan,
became senior partner of the stockbroking firm, Panmure Gordon, as did
Ian’s father, Donald. ...
... Ian’s father left his mother and married an Austrian, Marielen von
Meiss-Teuffen.... [Ian] trained as an accountant, a profession he
disliked so much that he later banned his children from pursuing it.
His son David would say that “The Dad” was a constant example. “My
father always used to say that nothing in life is fair, but he was of
the view that you had to muck in and get on with things and deal with
the difficult stuff that comes your way. He is a very optimistic
person.”

The Times published an obit on 9 September. Extract:

... although [Ian's] family seat, Blairmore House, was in Huntly,
Aberdeenshire; it was built by his great-grandfather Alexander Geddes
in 1884. Geddes had left Scotland for Chicago, where he made his
fortune in grain, before returning to Aberdeenshire in the 1880s and
building his new home... . It is commonly known that David Cameron is
fifth cousin to the Queen, twice removed (he is related to the Queen
through William IV's illegitimate daughter, according to Debrett's).
The details of his Scottish ancestry however, are somewhat less well-
known. Ian Cameron's father, Ewen Donald Cameron, married Enid Agnes
Maud Levita, granddaughter of Sir Alfred Cooper and Lady Agnes Duff,
whose parents were James Duff, 5th Earl of Fife and Chief of the Clan
MacDuff, and Lady Agnes Hay. Agnes was the daughter of William George
Hay, 18th Earl of Erroll, and Lady Elizabeth FitzClarence. One of
Agnes's four children, Duff Cooper, became Churchill's Minister of
Information during the Second World War; his wife Diana was a
celebrated beauty. ... Ian Cameron emerged from his younger son's
shadow in 2006 when he sold two portraits at auction in Newbury,
Berkshire, for more than £1 million. The sale of the paintings ...
broke auction house records. Works by Greuze are held by [London's
National Gallery] and the Louvre, but the two portraits, painted in
1766, had been estimated to just £18,000. Ian and Mary Cameron sold
the paintings, along with 11 pieces of antique furniture, because they
were moving from their home in Peasemore, near Newbury, to a smaller
house close by.....

I've amended his dates as the Telegraph obit gives his exact birth
date and location, which is confirmed by BMD, registered Q4 1932
Marylebone, London

A friend asked the following question:

"The 1st Bt. descends from a William Mount, of Wasing Place, Berks
(1753-1815). He already has a William Mount, of Wasing Place, Berks in
his database whose daughter Caroline Jane (died 1860) married Michael
Hicks-Beach and became grandmother of the 1st Earl of Saint Aldwyn.

Do you know if this William Mount is the same person as William,
ancestor of David Cameron?

In a word, yes. Unfortunately the ref. books simply state that he had
an only son, which is true. But fortunately someone has done quite a
lot of work on a family tree on ancestry.co.uk. There we learn that
William MOUNT (1753-1815) and Jenny PAGE (1770-1843) had four daus in
addition to their son:

1. Caroline Jane (1785-1860) m 1809 Michael HICKS BEACH (1780-1815),
ancestors of the 1st Earl St Aldwyn

2. Emily (1790-1863) unm (burial and will proved as MOUNT after her
death)

3. Maria (1796-1875) unm (reg as MOUNT at her death)

4. Laura Sarah (1802-67) m 1828 Francis BARLOW and had issue, a son,
4.1 Francis Mount BARLOW (1829-77) no marriage or issue are recorded

The Times calls Ian's father Ewen Donald Cameron, the Telegraph Donald
Ewen Cameron.

Me thinks the Times is correct, but he was known as Donald.

Thanks Richard. As you say, the ref. books aren't as clear as the
might be...
