From the Times of 28 June 2024: BLACK Melanie Fiona Louisa (née Lowson) died peacefully on 23rd June 2024, aged 84. Much-loved wife of Charles, mother of Adam and Holly, and grandmother of Charles and Daisy.

She was d of Sir Denys Colquhoun Flowerdew LOWSON 1st Bt 1906-75 and Hon Ann Patricia MACPHERSON 1919-2003 d of 1st Baron STRATHCARRON 1880-1937 and Elizabeth Marjorie d 1956 d of Sir George Wood RHODES 1st Bt 1860-1924 and Margaret Catherine PHILLIPS c1861-1915. She m 1964 Charles Archibald Adam 1937-2013 s of Archibald Adam Gordon BLACK 1907-90 (scion of the publishing family A&C Black who produce Who’s Who) and Violet Rosamund 1911-85 d of Lt-Col Charles Hyde VILLIERS CVO TD 1862-1947 (2xgt gs of 1st Earl of CLARENDON 1709-86, etc) and Lady Victoria Alexandrina INNES-KER 1877-1970 d of 7th Duke of ROXBURGHE 1839-93 and Lady Anne Emily SPENCER-CHURCHILL 1854-1923 d of 7th Duke of MARLBOROUGH 1822-83 (gf of course of the British wartime PM Sir Winston CHURCHILL KG) and Lady Frances Anne Emily VANE 1822-99 d of 3rd Marquess of LONDONDERRY 1778-1854 by his 2nd w a dau of The Countess of ANTRIM 1778-1834, and had a son and a dau.

From the Times of 6 July 2024: BLACK Funeral Arrangements. Funeral to be held at St Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge SW1 on Tuesday 23rd July 2024 at 11am.
