He m (Feb) 1985 (div 1991) Marian Frances d of Murray STEVENSON, and had a son, Douglas George Valletort, b 31 Oct 1985, [the only other person currently known to be in line to the title]. He also adopted his step-dau Emma Louise b 1983. He also has a son by Michele Anne d of late Barry Richard VOWLES of Paeroa, NZ: Samuel Benjamin VOWLES, b 1998 (not in line).

NOTE: neither the new earl nor his brother used the courtesy style of 'Hon' in the final print edition of DPB2019. It will be interesting to see whether the new earl establishes his claim to the title, whether his daus assume the style 'Lady' and whether his brother & heir presumptive adopts the style 'Hon'.

He was a member of the Lords from 1982 to 1999. Hansard has no spoken contribution. He sat as a crossbencher.
