Charles Worthington
obituary: Frozen-chicken entrepreneur
He turned to charitable
work, ran a restaurant and became chairman of Ballet Rambert
…Charles William David
Worthington was born in London into the Burton-on-Trent brewing family. His
father, Greville, was an antiquarian bookseller and a lieutenant in the Royal
Naval Volunteer Reserve; his mother was Lady Diana Duncombe, daughter of the 2nd
Earl of Feversham and granddaughter of “Darling Daisy”, the Countess of Warwick…
…Worthington married Camilla
Crawley in 1954, but the marriage did not last. During a visit to Seymour
Berry, 2nd Viscount Camrose, at Hackwood Park he met Sally Peto (née Stucley)
and they married in 1971. They built a happy life together over more than 50
years, first at Kingston Russell in Dorset and then in North Molton in Devon…
…The last lines in a brief
synopsis that Worthington wrote about himself read: “Devoted father to David
and Anna, and his three stepchildren Emma, Henry and Marina, and all the many
grandchildren who were to follow. Wherever he lived he designed beautiful
gardens, always accompanied by an unusual swimming pool. He was a good friend,
a good neighbour and an active church warden.”
Charles Worthington,
charity worker, was born on February 21, 1930. He died on November 24, 2024,
aged 94
