Admiral Sir Horace Rochfort Law, GCB, OBE, DSC, Commander-in-Chief,
Naval Home Command, and Flag Officer, Portsmouth Area, 1970-72, died 30
January, 2005. He was aged 93.

He was born 23 June, 1911, the son of S. Horace Law, MD, FRCSI, by his
wife, the former Sybil Mary Clay, and was educated at Sherborne.

Career: entered the Royal Navy, 1929; gunnery specialist, 1937; served
in the Second World War 1939-45 (awarded the Distinguished Service
Cross, 1941)AA Cruisers: Cairo, 1939; Coventry 1940; Cruiser Nigeria
1942; promoted Commander 1946; Captain 1952; commanded HMS Centaur
1958, and Britannia Royal Naval College, 1960; Rear-Admiral 1961;
Vice-Admiral 1965; Flag Officer, Sea Training, 1961-63; Flag Officer,
Submarines, 1963-65; Controller of the Navy, 1965-70; C-in-C Naval Home
Command, and Flag Officer Portsmouth 1970-72; First Principal Naval
Aide-de-Camp to Queen Elizabeth II, 1970-72; Member of the Security
Commission, 1973-82; President, RINA, 1975-77; President, Officers'
Christian Union, 1976-86; Chairman, Church Army Board, 1980-87.

He was Chairman of R & W Hawthorn Leslie and Co., 1973-81.

Horace Law was appointed OBE in 1950; CB 1963; KCB 1967; GCB 1972;
Grand Cross Order of the Crown (Netherlands) 1972.

He married in 1941, Heather Valerie Coryton, by whom he had two sons,
Robert and Edward, and two daughters, Philippa and Deborah. Lady Law
died in 1996.

Funeral at St Mary and St Gabriel, South Harting on Thursday, 10
February, 2005.
