She was d of Hugh Humphrey MERRIMAN DSO MC TD 1910-83 of Letts Green, Knockholt, Kent (s of Hugh Alexander MERRIMAN 1873- [?scion of that gentry family f/o Mildenhall] by his 8 April 1908 m (St John’s, Merrow) to Lilian Maude 1883-1955 d of Arthur Humphrey BOWLES 1849-1918 (land agent) scion of that gentry family of Abney Manor (and gs of Vice-Adm Sir George EYRE KCB KCMG 1769-1839 scion of that gentry family of Rampton and Georgiana 1779-1862 3rd dau of Sir George COOKE 3^rd Bt 1662-1732) by his 1873 m reg Q3 Kent to Gertrude MACKAY c1847-1932) by his 16 Feb 1935 m (St John’s, Woking) to Anne Margaret Holden 1914-98 d of Norman Holden ILLINGWORTH 1874-1942 (s of Alfred ILLINGWORTH MP 1826-1907 sometime head of that gentry family and Margaret 1842-1919 d of Sir Isaac HOLDEN 1^st Bt 1807-97 who was f of 1^st Baron HOLDEN 1833-1912) and Ethel Holden CROTHERS 1877-1958. She m 1965 4^th Baron AMHERST OF HACKNEY 1940-2009, and had a son (present 5^th Baron) and a dau.

Clearly "Georgiana 1779-1862 cannot be the 3rd dau of Sir George COOKE 3^rd Bt 1662-1732". More work needed there! Will correct when I've more time (and if others haven't done so in the meantime!)

Georgiana was a daughter of Sir George COOKE, 7th Bt (c.1745 - 2 VI 1823).

Per Burke's Family Index, the Merriman family last appeared in Burke's Landed Gentry in the 1952 edition. Someone has helpfully posted a copy of the pedigree on the internet at https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~jonessadler/genealogy/index_files/BLG%20Merriman%201952.pdf. I cannot find Hugh Humphrey Merriman or his father, Hugh Alexander Merriman (who, per probate records, died on 17 March 1944), in that pedigree, but a number of the people who do appear in it are shown as having "had, with other issue", so it is possible that they are of that family, but not mentioned by name in the article.
