From the Times of 10 Nov 2021: MERIVALE Josephine (Jo) (née Vaughan Morgan) died peacefully on 3rd November 2021, aged 97. Adored wife of Walter (deceased) and much-loved mother to Charlie and Philip and stepchildren Julia and Roger. Devoted grandmother to Simeon, Ben, Toby, Jess, Martha and Alexa and great-grandmother to Zoe. Jo will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Funeral, a celebration of a life well lived, at Christchurch Priory, Dorset, 17th November at 2.30pm. Family flowers only. Donations if desired to Musicians Benevolent Fund.

She was d of Capt Geoffrey Pascoe VAUGHAN MORGAN 1900-45 (s of Harley Pascoe VAUGHAN MORGAN 1878-1926 (s of Edward Vaughan MORGAN 1838-1922 gf of John Kenyon VAUGHAN-MORGAN the LP Baron REIGATE 1905-95) by his c1900 m reg Q1 London to Helen Marian READY 1874-1924) by his 1923 m reg Q3 Surrey to Dorothy Evelyn Hiddingh JEFFCOAT 1902-98. She m c1954 reg Q1 London as his 2nd w Walter Herman Hodgson 1917-71 s of Herman Walter MERIVALE 1890-1953 by his 1916 m reg Q2 Kent to Johanna HODGSON 1890-1964, and had two sons as above.

The deceased was a cousin of the Duchess of Kent, through the Duchess's maternal grandmother, the late Lady Brunner, who was of the same family.

As to the family of the late husband of the deceased, Herman Walter MERIVALE (1890–1953) was a brother of Philip, the actor, and of Dorothea, the wife of Sir Henry Noel BUNBURY K.C.B. (1876–1968) (ggs. of the Rev. Henry BUNBURY by Henrietta Eleonora SHIRLEY (1772–1841), ggd. of the 1st Earl FERRERS).  Their daughter Rachel Mary BUNBURY (1926–2005) m. the 2nd Baron BRIDGES (1927–2017).  Herman, Philip, and Dorothea were among the children (by Emma Magdalene PITTMAN) of Walter MERIVALE (1856–1902) s. (by Judith Mary Sophia FRERE) of the Very Rev. Charles MERIVALE D.D. D.C.L. (1808–93), Dean of Ely.  He was the s. of John Herman MERIVALE (1770–1844), barrister-at-law, by Louisa Heath, d. of the Rev. Dr. Joseph DRURY (1750–1834), Head Master of Harrow, by Louisa, d. of Benjamin HEATH D.C.L. (1704–66), classicist and bibliophile, and sister both of Benjamin HEATH, Dr. Drury's successor at Harrow, and of the Rev. Dr. George HEATH (1745–1822), Head Master of Eton.  According to Geneagraphie.com, Dr. Drury was of royal lineage through the families of Drury, Sothill, Plumpton, Clifford, Percy, and Mortimer.
