When HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Forfar is created Duke of Edinburgh a better title for Viscount Severn would be HRH Prince James of Edinburgh. He has, according to the Letters Patent issued over the last century been HRH Prince James of Wessex since his birth.

I thought the Princely title for both children was resolved. They won't be known as such. Unless the King has extended that olive branch too.. It seems high season for Titles.. Lets hope it continues to other family members and extended family members..

Yes, I believe that it was the wish of the Earl and Countess of Wessex that their children would not use those titles. However according to the Letters Patent they are HRH Prince/Princess as male line grandchildren of a Sovereign.

I read somewhere that the Duchess of Edinburgh, then Countess of Wessex, has said that her children will at age 18 be allowed to choose whether they want the royal style.
