Maj. Leonard Proby Haviland (see Richard's post) 2nd s. of Rev. Arthur Coles Haviland (1831-1904), rector of Lilley, Herts. The elder son, Wilfred Pollen Haviland, appears in several sources as of Delrow House, Aldenham, Herts., inc. Debrett's, which gives his 1915 marriage to Beryl Marion (1887-), dau. of Col Sir Edward Law Durand, 1st Bt and Maude Ellen, dau. of Algernon Charles Heber-Percy (descendant of 1st Earl of Beverley and 1st Duke of Northumberland). A sister of W. P. and L. P. Haviland, Katharine Jane, m. 1912, Col Harry John Sowerby, of Dalton Hall, Richmond, Yorks. [per Kelly's]; he given as s. of Col George Sowerby, of Putteridge Bury, Herts., J.P. BFI gives Sowerby families of Putteridge Park (1900) and Lilley Manor (1972- given the family connection to the place through Rev. A. C. Haviland, I think both are likely to be the same family).
Rev. A. C. Haviland identified in college registers as s. of John Haviland, Regius Professor of Physic, and Louisa, dau. of Rev. G. Pollen; Kelly's gives an elder son, also (Rev.) John (b. 1821), rector of Fladbury, Worcs., as of Ditton Hall, giving his father as of the same place, and his maternal grandfather as Rev. George Pollen, of Little Bookham, Surrey, which place was home of the Pollen family last treated in BLG 1937 as Willock-Pollen; having had a quick look around, BLG 1863 indicates the Rev. George as a former head of the family, "who inherited the estates of his cousin, Anne Pollen, upon the demise, issueless, of his uncle, the Rev. Thomas Pollen", and having married Mary, dau. of William Goode, of Newent, Glos., Louisa being their fifth daughter and the pedigree indicating her marriage to Dr Haviland. Rev. G. Pollen also a grandfather of Sir John Peter Boileau, 1st Bt, via his dau. Henrietta, who m. 1790 John Peter Boileau.
