Max Mosley, former Formula One boss, dies aged 81
Racing driver and lawyer who took on the News of the World and won
...Max Rufus Mosley was born in London in April 1940, weeks before his father and mother, like many other active fascists in Phoney War Britain, were interned in Holloway prison on national security grounds. Sir Oswald Mosley had been a Labour minister and a member of parliament for the Conservative Party in the 1920s but had left mainstream politics to lead the British Union of Fascists in the 1930s, a movement associated with authoritarian policies, violence towards its opponents and Nazi-style antisemitism.
After the death of his first wife in 1933, Oswald had married Diana Mitford in 1936 in a ceremony in Germany at the home of Joseph Goebbels and attended by Adolf Hitler. After his birth there were unfounded rumours in the press that Mosley was the son of Hitler and Unity Mitford, one of Diana’s five sisters. Unity was obsessed with Hitler and died in 1948, nine years after shooting herself in the head with a pistol given to her, for her own protection, by Hitler.
The young Mosley started life being looked after by a governess and being allowed only occasional visits to his parents in prison...
...After his parents’ release in 1943 to considerable public outrage, the family moved between a succession of country houses in England where Mosley and his elder brother, Alexander, were tutored at home...
While at Oxford Mosley married Jean Taylor, the daughter of a policeman from Streatham in south London, who survives him. ...  the biggest price he paid was the loss of his eldest son, Alexander, who died of a drug overdose at the age of 39... In addition to Alexander they had another son, Patrick, who leads a private life.
Max Mosley, racing driver, lawyer and former president of the FIA, was born on April 13, 1940. He died of cancer on May 23, 2021, aged 81

I initially thought from your post that there was a set of kinsmen and kinswomen related to the Queen independent of the "normal" Royal connections or the Abel SMITH connection. Of course, the relationship is via the SMITHs!

Sir John Parker MOSLEY, 1st Baronet (1732 - 1798)
|
Frances Mary MOSLEY (1767 - 1844) m. George SMITH, s of Abel SMITH, the banker (1717 - 1788)
|
Oswald SMITH (1794 - 1863)
|
Frances Dora SMITH (1833 - 1922), m. 13th Earl of STRATHMORE & KINGHORNE
|
14th Earl of STRATHMORE & KINGHORNE (1855 - 1944)
|
Lady Elizabeth BOWES-LYON (1900-2002), m. King GEORGE VI of the United Kingdom
|
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (b. 1926)

Obit in the Telegraph of 25 May 2021. Note they give the date of death as 24 May 2021 (Times says 23 May). ABC news has his "Friend Bernie Ecclestone, the former F1 chief executive, [saying] Monday [24 May] that Mosley died the previous evening [Sunday 23 May]."

Max Mosley, son of Sir Oswald Mosley who dominated Formula One and waged war on the tabloid press – obituary
As head of F1's governing body he oversaw years of success but his position became shaky after he was filmed with prostitutes by a tabloid
…If Mosley had been known only for his Formula One career his sexual antics might have been viewed as foolish and (depending on taste) depraved. But Mosley’s name carried a disturbing resonance. His father was Sir Oswald Mosley, the British fascist leader. Indeed Max was Sir Oswald’s favourite son.
…Max Rufus Mosley was born on April 13 1940 when his father had been interned by a government concerned at his calls for an accommodation to be sought with Hitler. Max was the second son of his father’s second wife, the society beauty Diana Mitford, who was herself interned 11 weeks after his birth.
Diana Mosley had the choice to take her baby with her into Holloway prison, but declined. Max and his brother Alexander were cared for over the next two years by Diana’s sister Pam and an army of nannies.
When the war ended and the Mosleys were released, no British school would take their sons, so, as Diana Mosley later recalled, “we got a tutor, and later on Ali went to school in Paris and Max in Germany”. In 1950 the family moved to France.
…In 1960 he married Joan Taylor, a policeman’s daughter whom he had met at a movement rally. In 1961 he was fined £2 for obstructing a policeman in Trafalgar Square, where he had been taking part in a counter-demonstration against an anti-apartheid protest.
…In the early 1980s, after his father’s death, Mosley considered standing as a Conservative candidate but concluded that the family name would count against him. Later on he was said to have converted to New Labour.
…Mosley was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur in 2006.
He is survived by his wife Jean and by a son. Another son died of a drug overdose in 2009.

It is interesting that the Mosley of the next generation to make the news is Max's nephew Louis ..the only child of his full brother Alexander.
