Today, I was looking something up in Debrett's 2011 and for some
reason or other, I came across the listing for the Shaughnessy barony.

The current (5th Baron) was listed as Charles Shaughnessy and that he
is an actor.

The name was the same to an actor whose work I knew. I was absolutely
floored to find out that His Lordship is the same actor!

If anyone of you are familiar with the long running American comedy
series "The Nanny," Charles Shaughnessy played the British theater
producer Maxwell Sheffield who was a widower with 3 children.
Eventually, he married (on the show) "The Nanny" played by Fran
Drescher. He has also appeared in the soap Days of our Lives and
several television movies and shows.

He joins Lord Haden-Guest (Christopher Guest) as actors familiar to
American audiences for their work onscreen and who are also British
lords.

There are a couple of baronets who you may have heard of: Sir Coles
John "Jeremy" Child, 3rd Baronet (Quadrophenia, Jeffrey Archer's
First Amongst Equals and A Fish Called Wanda). and Sir John Ronald
Leon Standing, 4th Baronet ( The First Churchills, Tinker, Tailor,
Soldier, Spy, King Solomon's Mines. In the U.S., he has made guest
appearances in numerous weekly programmes including L.A. Law, Civil
Wars and Murder She Wrote).

Is there a Sir John Standing 4th Bt? Isn`t it Sir John Leon 4th Bt and
his stage name is John Standing. Another baronet who is an actor is
Sit Timothy Ackroyd, 3rd Bt who I saw many years ago in Jeffrey
Bernard is Unwell with Peter O`Toole. The Earl of Portland is also an
actor, I think under the name Timothy Bentinck and I think he appeared
in The Archers.

A pity that both baronies will be extinct in the next 30 years are
there are no viable heirs, unless Debretts 2011 has listed any new
births?

And Lord H-G's brother and only heir (the Hon Nicholas, m twice with
two daus) is also an actor. No new births in the new edn of Debrett's
for either barony I'm afraid.

An actor that just sprang to mind is Jonathan Cecil, son of Lord David
Cecil and the grandson of James Gascoyne-Cecil, 4th Marquess of
Salisbury. Some might remember that he played Captain Hastings to
Peter Ustinov's Hercule Poirot.
