Richard Leslie Burnett was born at another manor house in Godstone, Surrey, on June 23 1932. Known to family and friends as Dick, he was the youngest of five children of Colonel Sir Leslie Burnett, [2nd] Bt, a member of the surveying firm David Burnett and Son, and his wife Joan (née Humphery)....
Burnett, who at one stage flirted with Buddhism, was appointed MBE in 2008. He is survived by Katrina (née Hendrey), whom he married in 1969; they had no children.
