ABEL SMITH
Wilfrid Ismay, peacefully at home on 31st May 2010 aged 80 years.
Beloved husband of Basilia, loving father of Charles and Alison and
devoted grandfather of Marina, Nicholas, Edmund, Dominic and Katie.
Funeral Service at St Augustine's Church, Queens Gate, London SW7 on
Wednesday 9th June at 11.30 a.m. followed by a private cremation.

He was the son of Capt Ralph Richard ABEL SMITH 1903-97 and Olive May
(1905-70) dau of James H ISMAY (scion of the Earls of Ducie). He m
1956 Basilia d Livingstone WELCH of New York and had a son and a dau
as above.

He shared a common Abel Smith ancestry with many members of the
British peerage and gentry. To name but three of his numerous
connections: The QUEEN and the Duchess of GRAFTON were his 5th cousins
and he was Sir Henry ABEL SMITH'S 3rd cousin once removed. The latter
of course was the son-in-law of Princess Alice Countess of Athlone (gd
of Queen VICTORIA). I could list many, many, many more connections,
but they'll all be obvious to you and are easily found elsewhere, so
won't clutter up our website with them!
