Specifically, Joseph Valynseele & Henri-Claude Mars, Le Sang des Rothschild, L’Intermédiaire des Chercheurs et Curieux, Paris, 2004, p. 223, in an extended footnote on the family, says, "Evséï Gabrielovitch, dit Joseph Elie Günzburg . . . fondateur d'un établissement bancaire à Saint-Petersbourg . . . avait été anobli en 1870 par le grand-duc de Hesse-Darmstadt, et avait reçu par lettres patentes de ce dernier le 20.7./2.8..1874 le titre héréditaire de baron. Le port de ce titre fut autorisé en Russie par décret impérial en date du 19-31/3.1875."
At least two other family members received titles from the Grand Duc of Hesse-Darmstadt, and were similarly authorized to carry the titles in Russia.
Assuming I have the correct Pierre, the descent is as follows:
(1) Gabriel Jacob von Günzburg ( -1853) & Léa
(2) Evséi Gabrielovitch “Joseph Elie” von Günzburg (1812-1878) & Rosa Dinin (1814-1892)
(3) Salomon David von Günzburg (1848-1905) & Henriette Ernestine Goldschmidt (1859-1927)
(4) Jean Maurice von Günzburg (1884- ) & Madeleine Hirsch
(5) Pierre von Günzburg (1930-2013)
The family can also count various Foulds and Rothschilds among their descendants:
(1) Gabriel Jacob von Günzburg ( - 1853) & Léa
(2) Evséi Gabrielovitch “Joseph Elie” von Günzburg (1812 - 1878) & Rosa Dinin (1814 - 1892)
(3) Eva Mathilda de Günzburg (1844 - 1894) & Paul Fould (1837 - 1917)
(4) Louise Fould (1862 - 1945) & Emile Salomon Georges Halphen (1857 - 1913)
(5) Germaine Alice Halphen (1884 - 1975) & Edouard Rothschild (1868 - 1949)
(6) Alphonse Rothschild (1906 - 1911)
(6) Guy de Rothschild (1909 - 2007) & Alix Schey von Koromla (1911 - 1982)
etc.
