I had a look at the Clist family (simply because such a distinctive name, I thought, ought to be simple enough to research); as usual, notes for anyone who might ever need to refer to this:
Julian Clist was of The Yard House, Great Witley, Worcs., director and marketing manager of carpet manufacturer Brintons Ltd (see below) and a director of several other companies, receiving his M.B.E. in 1970 for 'services to export', also a member of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce.
His father Hubert Arthur Clist was of Smith's Turning, Whitehill Road, Kidderminster, Worcs., a chartered architect (of Bank Buildings, Kidderminster) who had served in the Royal Field Artillery (M.C.). His father was Frank Clist (1867-1954), of 76, Vicarage Road, Chelmsford, Essex, an elementary school headmaster, who m. 1892, Alice (1867-1940), a schoolmistress, dau. of (John) Thomas Hudson, of Forge Road, formerly of Taylor Street, Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, a builder and master bricklayer. Given that Frank's elder son, Leonard Frank (1894-1977), also a headmaster, is listed as of 1, Vicarage Road, the school is presumably in the vicinity, but I couldn't find out its name. Leonard was also a Lt in the Essex Regiment (formerly of the Cheshire Regiment), M.C. Frank Clist was son of John Clist (1835-1891), of Shoreditch, nr Taunton, Somerset, a blacksmith, and Elizabeth (1836-), dau. of [William?] Ackland, of [Braunton? Sheldon/ Shaldon? Devoran? The census records give several birthplaces for her], Devon. John was born at Hemyock, nr Honiton, Devon, where many Clists appear in earlier census records, making it near-impossible for me to locate him with certainty (at least with the time I have available right now!); one member of the family, at least, was of Stone House, Hemyock, breeding dairy shorthorn cattle, but whether this was their residence for generations or a member of the family latterly came to possess it, again, I can't establish.
Anne Cecilia Hardcastle Brinton was dau. of Frederick Seymour Brinton (1870-1942), of Croft House, Kidderminster, chairman of his family's carpet manufacturing business (Brintons Ltd) after the death of his father, John Brinton (1827-1914), of Moor Hall, Lower Mitton, Worcs., J.P., chairman of the Kidderminster school board, who had been chairman since 1857. R. S. Brinton was also a first-class cricketer (13 appearances for Worcestershire), and Mayor of Kidderminster 1914-1916.
Along with Julian (as above), Hubert and Anna Clist had a younger son, Timothy John Brinton Clist (1938-), an architect (Dip. Arch, Univ. of Birmingham), who m. and had issue, and a daughter, Athene, who married Richard Arthur Davis Keatinge (1947-2008), of Killiney, Co. Dublin, managing director, IBI Corporate Finance, formerly of the Bank of Ireland, who was s. of Richard Herbert Keatinge, of Co. Cork, resident magistrate at Mombasa, Kenya, where his son was born. A possible link to the Keatinge family of Kilcowan is the reason I include these details- I unfortunately can't check my BIFR 1976 right now, so if anyone can corroborate, much appreciated.
Monica Mary Daniel (mother of Caroline Mary Dewey), was daughter of Vincent Supple Daniel (1874-1945), a 'black and white artist' (i.e. cartoonist) and engraver [more details here:
http://ukcomics.wikia.com/wiki/Vincent_S._Daniel_(1874-1945)] formerly of Hammersmith. His probate record has him of 174, Watchfield (presumably Watchfield Court), Sutton Court Road, Chiswick.
