It should be noted that Henry is recorded in BLG(Scotland) as the 8th
head of the gentry family of Strathtyrum and heir to his father as 3rd
of Fossoway.

Has Angus been bypassed as Laird? I note that Fossoway was sold by
Angus to Henry but can't work out how it is that Henry is the 8th of
Strathyrum (which I don't think is still in the family).

For those interested in golf, Mrs Gladys Cheape sold land which is now
the Strathyrum Course at St Andrews. Cheape's is the name of the
bunker on the 2nd and 17th fairway of the Old Course.

is this a feudal barony? Because I can't find it. I'd appreciate any
links that you may have.

No it's a Lairdship. Here's a link to BLG(Scotland) alluded to by
Saracen:

Okay, now I'm REALLY confused. I thought Scottish Lairds were
considered Peers, equiv. to Barons. No?
Regards,
Leigh

Absolutely not.

Lairdships, and Feudal Baronies are Incorporeal Hereditaments i.e. an
intangible right which is attached to property and which is
inheritable. This makes the purchase of Feudal Baronies ,and
Lairdships possible as long as you've got the land to go with it.
(Others will argue with me on the last point, but I'm sticking to my
guns...)

Peerages; be they English, Irish or Scottish cannot in any
circumstances be purchased.

"Peerages...cannot in any circumstances be purchased". Unless Lloyd-George
is prime minister, of course.

Absolutely not.
