The Baron Carnock, fourth holder of the peerage (created 1916), died
on Boxing Day, 2008. He was aged 88. The Chief of the Clan Nicolson,
who lived near Ivybridge, south Devon, was a solicitor and soldier.

He was born 10 Jul 1920 as David Henry Arthur Nicolson, son of the 3rd
Baron Carnock, DSO (1884-1982), by his wife the Hon Katharine Lopes (d
1968), dau of the 1st Baron Roborough.

He was educated at Winchester and Balliol College, Oxford (MA).

Career: -->> Admitted a solicitor 1949, Partner, Clifford-Turner,
1953-86; served in the Second World War, Royal Devon Yeomanry and on
staff, as Maj; succeeded his father, 1982. Unmarried.

He is succeeded in the family honours by his kinsman, Adam Nicolson,
born in 1957, a grandson of Sir Harold Nicolson and Vita Sackville-
West.

Michael, does the new Baron also inherit the baronetcies of Lasswade
and Carnock as well?
