The engagement was announced 28 Dec, 2007, between R.C.G. (Charles)
Berkeley, scion of the Berkeley of Berkeley LG family, elder son of
Mr
and Mrs R.J.G. Berkeley, of Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire, and
Deirdre T. Erickson-Metcalf, daughter of Mr C.G. Erickson, of Boston,
Massachusetts, and Mrs T.D. Metcalf, of New York.

But, dear reader, cast your eyes over this:-

Pity, doesn't he have a younger brother, and there is another family
seat Spetchley park, the family used to be in the times Rich List
back in the early 90's but I forget what the acerage is, if ever
there was a LG family worth of an hereditary peerage, it would be this
one.

As you are no doubt aware there was an earldom; but it, and the
viscouncy of Dursley became extinct in 1942.

Maybe it was all of those initials that scared her off.

But that earldom would have been in the family of Michael Berkley son
of the late Sir Lennox, but due to the dispute over his parents
marriage they are excluded from the earldom which is now extinct. The
trouble is that the earldom never had a remainder that took in the
whole of those who are in remainder to the barony by writ.
