Currently there are 5 hereditary peers sitting in the House of Lords by virtue of a Life Peerage:
- 3rd Viscount Chandos [Baron Lyttelton of Aldershot]
- 4th Baron Ponsonby of Shulbrede [Baron Ponsonby of Roehampton]
- 6th Baron Redesdale [Baron Mitford]
- 18th Baron Berkeley [Baron Gueterbock]
- 3rd Viscount Hailsham [Baron Hailsham of Kettlethorpe]

Given the likely passage of the House of Lords (Hereditary peers) Bill into law in the next few months, it has been suggested in some debates that some excepted hereditaries will be given life peerages to keep them in the House.  How extensive this will be is anyone's guess, but don't expect lots!

Likely contenders:
- 16th Earl of Kinnoull (b 1962), current Convenor of the Crossbench Peers
- 7th Earl Howe (b 1951), current Shadow Deputy Leader of the House
- 2nd Baron Strathclyde (b 1960), Leader of the House 2010 to 2013 - the precedent was set in 1999 when all former Leaders who were hereditary peers were offered life peerages.
