Mrs Penelope Jane Merriam, née Gidley-Kitchin, is the younger daughter of Greville Courtenay Bartholomew GIDLEY-KITCHIN (c.1920/1 - 6 VII 2017) and his wife (married 1951), (Mary) Sylvia ("Sue") MARSDEN (6 VII 1920 - 9 I 2015), who was herself the eldest daughter of Reginald Edward MARSDEN (1879 - 30 VII 1960) and his wife (married 27 VII 1911), the Hon Vere Mary DILLON (23 X 1888 - 12 VIII 1991), granted the rank of a Viscount's daughter on 7 September 1934, whose brothers were the 18th and 19th Viscounts Dillon.
