In the book Order and
Equipoise: The Peerage and the House of Lords, 1783-1806 (1978), p 231 by Michael
W. McCahill, there is an interesting appendix (attached below) that notes peers created during
Pitt the Younger’s first administration (1783-1801) with parliamentary interest
at the time of their creation.
The peers so referenced in the appendix were the following:
Baron Bolton (20 Oct 1797) for Thomas Orde-Powlett. He was MP 1780-84, 1784-96 and was Chief Secretary for Ireland 1784-87. He married Jean Mary, illegitimate daughter and heiress of vast estates of the 5th Duke of Bolton
Baron Bradford (13 Aug 1794) for Sir Henry Bridgeman, 5th Bt. He was MP 1748-68, 1768-94. His son and heir, Orlando, was created Earl of Bradford in 1815.
Baron Brodrick (11 June 1796) for George Brodrick, 4th Viscount Midleton [I]. He was MP 1774-96 and Ld-Lt of Surrey 1814-30.
Baron Bulkeley (14 May 1784) for Thomas James Bulkeley, 7th Viscount Bulkeley [I]. He was of Welsh extraction; MP 1774-84 and Ld-Lt of Caernarvonshire 1781-1822. Upon his death both peerages became extinct.
Baron Calthorpe (15 June 1796) for Sir Henry Gough-Calthorpe, 2nd Bt. He was MP 1774-96
Baron Camelford (5 Jan 1784) for Thomas Pitt. He was son of Thomas Pitt, of Boconnoc, elder brother of Pitt the Elder. He was MP 1761-84 and an art collected. His son and heir, Thomas, led a very colorful life as an adventurer including during the Vancouver Expedition.
Baron Carrington of Upton (20 Oct 1797) for Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington of Bulcot Lodge [I]. He was MP 1779-97. His grandson was Charles Robert Wynn-Carington, later 1st Earl of Carrington later 1st Marquess of Lincolnshire.
Baron Clive (13 Aug 1794) for Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive [I]. He was MP 1754-55, 1761-74 and was Governor of Bengal 1757-60, 1764-67, who laid the foundation for the East India Company in British India.
Baron Curzon (13 Aug 1794) for Assheton Curzon. He was MP 1754-80, 1792-94. His son and heir, Richard, was created Earl Howe in 1821.
Baron de Dunstanville (17 June 1796) for Sir Francis Basset, 1st Bt. He was MP 1780-96. A rather colorful character, he was later created Baron Basset in 1797 with special remainder to his daughter (she died unmarried 1855 and this peerage became extinct), the Barony of de Dunstanville becoming extinct upon his death.
Baron Dundas (13 Aug 1794) for Sir Thomas Laurence Dundas, 2nd Bt. He was MP 1763-68, 1768-94. His son, Lawrence, was created Earl of Zetland in 1766. His son and heir in turn, Lawrence, was created 1st Marquess of Zetland in 1892, who was Ld-Lt of Ireland 1889-92.
Baron Eliot (30 Jan 1784) for Edward Eliot. He was MP 1748-68, 1768-74, 1774-75, 1775-84. His son and heir, John, was created Earl of Saint Germans in 1815.
Baron Lyttelton (13 Aug 1794) for William Henry Lyttelton, 1st Baron Westcote [I]. He was MP 1748-55, 1774-90 and Gov of Jamaica 1762-66 and prior to that of South Carolina 1756-60. His descendant, Charles, 5th Baron Lyttelton, succeeded as 8th Viscount Cobham in 1889.
Baron Northwick (26 Oct 1797) for Sir John Rushout, 5th Bt. He was MP 1761-96. The peerage became extinct upon of the George, 3rd Baron Rushout in 1887.
Baron Ribblesdale (26 Oct 1797) for Thomas Lister. He was MP 1773-90. The peerage became extinct upon the death of Thomas, 4th Baron Ribblesdale in 1925.
Baron Somers (17 May 1784) for Sir John Somers, 1st Bt. He was MP 1747-84. His son and heir, John, was created Earl Somers in 1821, but this title became extinct in 1883 and the title reverted to his cousin-once-removed. The family seat of Eastnor Castle is held by a descendant of the 6th Baron Somers today.
Baron Verulam (6 July 1790) for James Bucknall Grimston, 3rd Viscount Grimston [I]. He was MP 1783-84, 1784-90. His son and heir, James, was created Earl of Verulam in 1815.
Baron Yarborough (13 Aug 1794) for Charles Anderson Pelham. He was MP 1768-74, 1774-94. His son and heir, Charles, was created Earl of Yarborough in 1837.
