There is a Facebook post from the Phuket Yacht Club Community, dated 4 Nov 2024, announcing the recent death of "Tim Milner", aged 88. He is said to have sailed from South Africa in 1964 and had lived in Phuket "for decades".

Sir Timothy Milner would have turned 88 on 11 Oct 2024. Debrett's lists only a "c/o" address at Natte Valleij, South Africa, and not an actual residential address. Natte Valleij is the site of the Milner family's winery, now run by his nephew Alexander.

I can find no further information online about either Sir Timothy or the Tim Milner who died in or near Phuket.

Does anyone know whether these might be the same person?

I can add that as early as the 1971 Debrett's there was no residential address listed for the future Sir Timothy, though there was one for his younger brother.

On 7th November 2024  somebody updated Milner baronets page in Wikipedia. According to this page the new baronet is Marcus Charles Mordaunt Milner (born 1968). The heir is his eldest son, Lucas Lane Mordaunt Milner (born 2002).

It appears he died on 24 November 2024.  Although resident in Thailand he must have retained property in South Africa as there is a deceased estates notice in the South Africa Government Gazette dated 21 Nov 2025 No 553677 Part A page 121 in the following terms:

026791/2024—(2) Milner, Timothy William Lycett, 1936-10-11, 548484213, 23 Village, No 2 Rawai Sub- District, Mueang, Phuket; (3) 2024-11-04, Cape Town; (4) N/A N/A, -, -; (5) Christine Marguerite Kennedy, c/o FNB Fiduciary, P O Box 135, Cape Town 8000; (6) -

For those not familiar with SA deceased estates notices:

The information is given in the following order: (1) Estate number, (2) surname and christian names, date of birth, identity number, last address; (3) date of death; (4) surviving spouse’s names, surname, date of birth and identity number; (5) name and address of executor and authorised agent; (6) period allowed for lodgement of claims if other than 30 days.

Thanks for the confirmation, Colin. I thought it must be he, but could not confirm it.

I have a distaste for announcing deaths on social media, but recently I have learned of several different ones on Facebook when my searches led me there.

So he was an expat for sixty years, happily yachting around the Thai coast. :) I did find several mentions online of boats "formerly" belonging to Tim Milner.

It's funny that the family never reported to Debrett's that he was in Thailand all those years.

And here is the Natte Valleij site. I think the first photo may be Alexander.
