W. J. E. Stuttaford of Bure Ridge, Horning, nr Wroxham, Norfolk, formerly of Worcester Park, London KT4, educ. Clifton Coll., Selwyn Coll., Cantab., King's Coll. Hospital, M.R.C.S. L.R.C.P. 1906, Capt. R.A.M.C., M.C., s. of William Foot Stuttaford (1831-1911), of Worcester Park, sometime of Canada (post-first marriage), also sometime of Cape Town, S.A. (returned to England 1860s). W. F. Stuttaford a schoolmaster, previously in business with his brother Sampson Rickard Stuttaford (1833-1914), founder of the Stuttaford & Co. department stores apparently all over S.A., the first being established at Cape Town.
They were sons of Sampson Pote Stuttaford (1807-1839), of Eggbuckland, Devons., formerly of Helston, Cornwall, schoolmaster at the National School at Helston, and his wife Ann (1809-1893), as a widow a grocer and baker, dau. of John Foot (c. 1773-1857).
He s. of William Stuttaford (c. 1772- c. 1821), of Eggbuckland, and (m. 1794) Elizabeth, dau. of - Pote. He s. of Archelaus Stuttaford (c. 1748- c. 1814), of Eggbuckland, by his wife Elizabeth, dau. of - Irving; his father John (c. 1707- c. 1764) was of Sampford Spiney, and his father (also John, b. c. 1675) was of Meavy, both of these places being at Dartmoor.
