From the Telegraph of 29 December 2017: PLAYFAIR H.G.L., OBE, died peacefully on 21st December 2017 at St. Margaret's Hospice, Yeovil, aged 82 years. Dearly beloved husband of Bridget, father of Patrick, Edward and Elizabeth, adored grandfather of Lyon, Alex, Izzie, Amelia and Frederick. A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Michael's, North Cadbury, BA22 7DW on 19th January at 2.30 p.m. following a private cremation. Family flowers only please but donations will go to St. Margaret's Hospice and the Churches of Blackford and North Cadbury c/o Harold F. Miles, Funeral Director, South Cadbury.

 

He was s of John Maxwell PLAYFAIR of Baltilly, Ceres, Fife (1899-1983 death reg 746/605 Newington and The Times 23 Aug), scion of the Scots family of that name and of the PLAYFAIR barons, by his 1927 m (reg 420/25 Cupar) to Marjory Jean ARMOUR-HANNAY (1901-1983 death reg 417/36 Cupar, took the name PLAYFAIR-HANNAY on her marriage, died before her husband, d of Samuel Beveridge ARMOUR (assumed the additional name of HAANAY & d 1919) (Advocate Sheriff Substitute of Fife) and Robina Anne Marjory HANNAY (1876-) sometime head of the gentry family HANNAY of Kingsmuir).  He m (22 Aug 1970 in Sydney, Australia, The Times 12 August) Bridget d of E A GARLAND of Sydney, Australia and had two sons and a dau as above.

Rev David PLAYFAIR (1836-86) of Abercorn, Linlithgowshire = Jane Kincaid PITCAIRN (1831-81), scion of the Scots family of that name.

As everyone has probably already concluded, given the name 'Lyon', some link is very likely to exist with the Strathmore-descendant Playfairs treated here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/peerage-news/playfair%7Csort:date/peerage-news/gMrwKRI-UAY/AylPdazuBwAJ

The earlier generations have thrown me slightly, though; I'll have to take a look later as I'm just going out (unless someone else gets there first).
